When to use a video QR
Use a video QR when you want every scan to land on the same clip: a launch, tutorial, or paid placement.
Paste a URL that includes /video/ on tiktok.com, or use vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com short links.
Link types that work best
Full browser URLs look like https://www.tiktok.com/@creator/video/7123456789012345678. Those are reliable for encoding because they identify one video ID.
Share sheet short links (vm.tiktok.com, vt.tiktok.com) also work: TikTok resolves them to a single video. Keep the full short URL when you paste. Do not truncate characters.
If you only have @creator with no video ID, use the profile QR generator instead. This page requires a real video destination.
Campaign ready print and display
Video promos are often scanned from distance (OOH, retail windows). Size the QR so the camera can resolve modules: larger minimums than a business card QR.
Use strong black on white (or brand colors only if contrast stays high). Low contrast is the top reason outdoor TikTok QRs fail in sunlight.
For digital screens, avoid subpixel scaling that blurs edges; export at the native pixel dimensions of the player when possible.
Playback, region, and logged out viewers
Some viewers may land in a web view first; autoplay, sound, and login prompts depend on TikTok and the browser. Your QR only carries the URL. It cannot control autoplay.
If a video is region restricted or removed, the QR will still open but TikTok may show an error. Reprint if you delete or swap the hero video.
Private or friends only videos are a poor fit for public QRs: assume everyone scanning is logged out until they sign in.
Attribution and AB tests
Static QRs do not include analytics. For paid media, consider one QR per creative variant so you can compare scan volumes by placement (different printed URLs via your redirect domain).
